Britney’s car seat calamity

britney.jpgAn open letter to Britney Spears: We know as a new mom, things can be a little overwhelming. It’s okay that you sometimes leave the house in sweats, without make-up and with greasy hair. I’ll let the “Sean falling from his highchair incident” slide — after all, mistakes happen.

I was intensely skeptical seeing your baby in your lap while driving (apparently in an attempt to escape paparazzi). However, I am having a hard time turning a blind eye to you driving with your 8-month old in a forward-facing car seat in a covertible Mini Cooper.

Little Sean Preston was snapped by photographers slumped over (he looked to be asleep) in the back seat of the pregnant pop star’s car. Federal regulations require children under the age of 1 and weighing less than 20 pounds to be rear-facing in their car seat.

Although a section of the California Vehicle Code says child seats must be installed properly, she probably won’t be cited for this incident. “It’s a bit of a gray area,” California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Marshall says, citing the fact that the violation was not witnessed in person.

The NY Daily Post reports Britney’s busy rep as saying: “It has been reported that there is a photo of Britney Spears driving with her child sitting in a forward-facing child safety seat in the back seat of the car. Having a child in the child safety seat facing forward in the rear seat of the car is in compliance with California law. California law requires, pursuant to Vehicle Code 27360, that all children under the age of six or weighing less than 60 lbs be in safety seats in the back seat of the car. There is no law in California requiring rear-facing car seats. In fact, there are only ten states that require a child to be in a rear-facing car seat, and in two of those states it is not required if the infant is more than 20 lbs. Britney’s son Sean weighs over 20 lbs. As such, Britney Spears was in total compliance with California law with the forward-facing child safety car seat with the baby strapped in properly in the back of the car.”

I don’t know nothin’ about car seats, ya’ll!

Do you think Brit at least rubbed some sunblock on her little guy?

I was amazed about the concern with the forward facing carseat. In Australia babies start riding in the forward facing position when they’re around 6 months, although obviously, the older the better for baby.

Why don’t you leave her alone other people do that, that aren’t stars and no body bothers them, so she has done some mistakes, everyone does them, and giving the sons to kevin, kevin isn’t any better then britney… i think Britney should get the children back.
