Child Services visits the homes of Spears and Elisabeth Hasselbeck

bspears2.jpgChild Protective Services have had a busy month. They were called to Britney’s Malibu home for the second time in less then a year (they made their first visit in Feb. after little Sean’s infamous front-seat ride).

People reports that the accident-prone couple took their 7-month-old baby to the ER after he fell out of the highchair while in the care of the nanny, bruising his head. (The tabloid magazine Star reports he sustained a skull fracture and a blood clot.)

This doctor visit resulted in a mandatory visit from the Department of Children and Family Services, in accordance with California law. Brit’s lawyer, Marty Singer, says “They [CFS] determined that the parents were not involved in any injury and that nothing improper was done within the home.”

Reality-star turned The View talk show host Elisabeth Hasselbeck also was paid a visit by Children’s Services to her New York home. Head-honcho View host Barbara Walters spoke about the allegations on the show, saying that Hasselbeck is being stalked by a woman who called child services making “unsupported allegations” concerning 1-year-old daughter Grace Elisabeth.

hasselbeck.bmpHasselbeck and husband, Giants quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, made a statement that Walters read on-air: “This is a malicious attempt to harass our family. These allegations have been reviewed by Child Protective Authorities and have been found to be absolutely false.” The couple does plan on prosecuting those responsible for the false accusations.

I can’t help but wonder if celebrities put themselves in situations that would justify a visit by CPS (Brit?), or if their celebrity status makes them targets (Elisabeth?)?

In the meantime, though, I may rethink hiring Britney as my babysitter.
